VARIA “Ready-to-use” systems with the OPNsense firewall

With the release of the new APU board series, VARIA started with four “ready-to-use” models of the OPNsense firewall system. The high-performance APU industrial embedded board from the Swiss manufacturer PC Engines is ideally equipped with the 1.0 GHz AMD Embedded G-Series T40E APU (dual core and 64 bit support) to be stable and reliable even in demanding 24/7 network environments to run.

And why OPNsense?

OPNsense offers decisive advantages over the competition, such as forward caching proxy, traffic shaping, intrusion detection and simple client setup OpenVPN.
OPNsense is not a new invention, but is already firmly established on the market.

OPNsense is an open-source FreeBSD-based firewall and routing platform that is easy to install and use. OPNsense covers most of the common features of commercial firewalls, and in most cases more. It combines the diverse functions of commercial offerings with the advantages of an open and verifiable source.

OPNsense was initially a spin-off from pfSense® and m0n0wall and was first published in January 2015. The project developed quickly, keeping familiar aspects of m0n0wall and pfSense®. A strong focus on security and code quality are driving this project forward.

A fixed release cycle of two main releases per year enables companies to plan upgrades in advance.
